Dear friends, After spending SG$14019, putting aside 165 man hrs, using 54 cars, 1 lorry, 3 vans. We had reached 300 different locations and benefitting 600 - 750 individuals as a result. Taking on this project will remain a pinnacle event in our calender for Singapore. I have the following people to thank, Mr Chia who is in charge of the fleet of taxis, Mr Cheng who asked his friends and employees of Symtax to come over and help, Elaine and the primary coordinators from Shan You, AB.com members and facebook friends. The success of this event is pretty much determine by whether we can swing a full range of activities in a short frame of time. The main question everyone ask in their minds is where does all the money really go? You will be able to see that all contributions went straight to the recipients and not a single cent was used for any sort salary, maintenance or unforseen expenses. The only expense was only 2 boxes of blu-tac which only cost SG$6. In the past, we had to sort the rations on Thursday evenings, pre-packed on Friday evenings then deliver on Saturday morning till noon. With some initiative, we saved time from the sorting as we got the suppliers to lay the provisions in a pattern which facilitated an efficient packing routine. Then we had the cars coming in 4 different waves on an hourly manner. We end with the last bag collected by 1156am and distributed by 215pm. In my initial thoughts, did wonder whether the plan will work as i haven't met 65% of the volunteers. When raising the contributions that too i wondered whether we will reach our estimated mark of roughly SG$14,000.00. Successfully, we raised the full sum in 10 days which is a record. We used 3hrs to complete the packing. The 1st wave of distribution started from 9am and ended with the last bag of provision delivered by 245pm, in total almost 6hrs for distribution. We used only a combine of 9hrs 45mins to complete the whole event which i declare a new record even for Shan You. We received compliments of efficiency in all levels and Shan You is asking when we will come back again. This is only possible with everyone's support, to receive these words of encouragement and positives. It was really enlighting to see some members coming back for 2nd rounds of the distribution. For those who had been involved in donating, packing, loading as well as distribution clearly exemplify true volunteerism. For me, its truly a humble experience seeing each stage unfold as planned. Bidding everyone the best of health and hereby launching our next project which will involve 3 different countries. They are Sarikan Village (INDONESIA), Sakon Nakhon (THAILAND), Petaling Jaya (MALAYSIA). The project involves travelling from 08 - 20 Jan 2013 with the visit of 7 orphanages, 5 nurseries and 100 needy families.
