The Ministry of Defence issued a reminder to National Day Parade (NDP) participants about safety and medical protocols after a participant collapsed and subsequently died during the rehearsal on Jun. 21, 2025.

Collapsed during rehearsal

Muhammad Adzri Abdul Aziz was a 47-year-old Certis Auxiliary Officer and was part of the OneChangi NDP Parade and Ceremony Contingent.

He collapsed on Saturday, Jun. 21, at 11:23am at the end of a component rehearsal and was taken to Singapore General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 12.19 pm.

Funeral rites for Adzri were held on Jun. 22.

Members of Parliament for Tampines GRC, Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli and Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo were in attendance, according to a social media post.

Also in attendance was NDP 2025 parade commander Firdaus Ghazali.

Reminded on safety and medical processes
Responding to queries from Mothership, a Mindef spokesperson stated that the NDP 2025 Exco has health and medical protocols in place, including the implementation of a mandatory health declaration prior to joining the NDP as a marching contingent participant.

Participants unsure of their existing health and fitness levels are encouraged to seek medical advice.

Before rehearsals, trainers and points of contact of the marching contigents also check on the well-being and condition of the participants. Participants are reminded not to continue with training if they feel unwell.

Should a medical emergency still occur, the Mindef spokesperson said a “robust medical support system” with doctors on site and evacuation procedures and ambulances in place.

Immediately following the incident, all Parade and Ceremony Participants were briefed to remind them about the established safety and medical processes.

Trainers will continue to keep a close eye on all participants and watch for their safety.
